Embellishments

Today’s topic is embellishments.  Embellishments can be added to any quilt either before the quilting or after.  Embellishments such as hot fix crystals, beads, sequins and such should be added after quilting.  Angelina fibers can be used to add shimmer behind appliques or embroideries, or it can be treated as a fabric itself.  Hand dyed yarns and trims can be added before quilting and can be part of the design or statement being made by the quilt.  I have used hand dyed fibers in landscape quilts and also in quilts depicting under water scenes.

Sometimes I get very creative with embellishments.  Below is an under water scene which I added actual small sea shells and sea glass to by hot gluing.

For the Halloween inspired quilt, I added actual false eye lashes to my witches.

Another example is the golf scene.  I used Angelina fibers to give some shimmer to the sun in the background and hand dyed fibers to represent trees in the distance amongst the rolling hills.

For several of the quilts shown here, they start as a basic landscape.  If you have always wanted to try a landscape quilt but have been intimidated, we now have a beginner’s landscape quilt kit which teaches you the basic technique in a small 12” x 12” sky/water/sand landscape

See below for more examples which showcase zippers as a design element, jingle bells added to a Christmas themed quilt and ric rac to spice up a simple four patch

Consider embellishments in one of your projects – it can be so much fun!
