Throw Back Thursday Quilt

Throw Back Thursday Quilt - This quilt was donated to a children’s hospital in New Jersey.  I had a large scale print that was bright and cheerful to use but I wanted more than just large squares of fabric.  So I chose 2 coordinating fabrics and made a stack of flying geese (using the speed piecing method).  Then I playfully arranged the flying geese into various positions to give each block a different look.

Flying geese are made up of a large triangle with a smaller triangle on either side and is twice as wide as it is tall.  There are several methods for making flying geese – the sew and flip method, paper piecing and the speed piecing method which produces 4 geese at a time, just to name a few.

Here is a helpful tutorial for the speed piecing method:  http://www.patchpieces.com/files/flyinggeese.pdf

Check out some of our large scale prints or use blocks from panels to make a similar go together super quick and easy quilt!
